- Notizen des Weinguts: An intense purple, the wine has a bewitching nose with clearly defined and precise fruit, underlined by mineral notes which connect the wine to the terroir from which it came. The full and elegant attack leads into a fresh, dense and silky mid palate on chiselled tannins, followed by an impressively long finish.

Der Auftakt ist direkt und frisch, die Entwicklung schlank bei grosser Tiefe, das Ganze wirkt sehr burgundisch dank der besonderen Fruchtigkeit, der tragenden Struktur und Frische. Grosser Wein aus einem verkannten Jahrgang.

- 20 Punkte VINUM: Die Verkostung eines Pontet Canet wird mehr und mehr zu einem irrealen, sublimen Moment der Abgehobenheit und Traszendenz. Doch dazu führen handfeste Komponenten. Dazu gehören die unerhörte, unnachahmliche aromatische Klasse, mit den subtilen Kräuternoten, der delikaten fruchtig-blumigen Würze, der besondere, mineralisch-salzige Schliff und die Dichte der erstklassigen Tannine, der Ausdruck der Fruchtigkeit, die enorme Länge, die subtilen Kräuternoten. Grossartig, jede Notierung wird da zur Farce.
- 98 Punkte JAMES SUCKLING: A stunning wine for this vintage although its still a bit shy on the nose (more spice than fruit showing than now). Theres wet earth, too, but on the palate its bursting with ripe yet subtle flavors. Very long and complex finish that goes on and on.
- 96 Punkte DECANTER Fifth Growths: Hard to describe the intensity and complexity of this wine, with its pure expressions of fruit. While Lynch-Bages has more Pauillac typicity, Pontet Canet displays another level of ripeness and vivid flavour. Could it be because oft he amphoras?
- 96 Punkte und Cellar Selection WINE ENTHUSIAST: This is a finely structured wine with dark tannins and intense black fruits. The estate, with its biodynamically grown fruit, has given an impressively pure wine, packed with tight serious tannins and a fine structure of black-plum skins and intense acidity. It is direct, firm and with a huge potential over many years. Drink from 2027.
- 95+ Punkte VINOUS Antonio Galloni: The 2014 Pontet-Canet seems to have put on quite a bit of weight and volume since I first tasted it from barrel. Ripe, juicy tannins wrap around a core of intense dark cherry, plum, spice, lavender and tobacco. Today, it is the wine's sheer intensity and vertical structure that stands out. I wouldn't dream of touching a bottle until at least age ten, and even that is almost certainly not going to be enough time for the 2014 to show the full breadth of its potential. The transformation the 2014 has undergone from a delicate, nuanced Pauillac to a wine of depth is quite remarkable. Tasted three times. The blend is 65 Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 Merlot, 5 Petit Verdot, vinified in equal parts cement and oak and aged in a combination of 50 new oak, 35 amphora and 15 once used barrels. This is a gorgeous wine from the Tesseron family and the team led by Technical Director Jean-Michel Comme.
- 95 Punkte FALSTAFF: Makellos pure Cassisfrucht, ätherische Nebentöne, Lakritze, Maiglöckchen, auch etwas Pflaume und Zibarte, dezent integriertes Holz. Seidiges feinkörniges, trotz der mürben Anlage Griff aufbauendes Tannin, das in einem weichen Körper Druck macht, ohne zu adstringieren oder auszutrocknen. Homogene Gaumenfrucht, feingliedriger Säurenerv. Ein ausgewogener und dabei unforciert wirkender Wein, mit sehr fester taktiler Mineralität zuinnerst. 50 Prozent Ausbau im Neuholz, 35 Prozent in AmphoreEi, 15 Prozent in gebrauchten Barriques.
- 94 Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE: The 2014 Pontet-Canet, now in bottle, was tasted twice during my trip to Bordeaux. It has an attractive bouquet: graphite tinged black fruit, incense and violets, perhaps a little more hedonistic than I envisaged when I tasted it from barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with tensile tannin thanks to the keen line of acidity. I like the precision of this Pontet-Canet. It feels linear and correct, pencil lead notes developing towards the second half, more quintessentially Pauillac than previous vintages, with what you might describe as a classic Pauillac finish that retains the focus that I remarked upon from barrel.
