- 97 Punkte JEB DUNNUCK (112022): I love this château, and the 2019 Château Soutard-Cadet is another brilliant wine that's in the same ballpark as the 2018. Sporting a deep purple hue as well as a rich, powerful nose of ripe black fruits, scorched earth, spicy oak, graphite, and damp earth, it's rich and concentrated, yet the purity is brilliant, it has silky and perfectly ripe tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. As I wrote from barrel, it's going to benefit from just 2-4 years of bottle age and, I suspect, have 20, 25, if not 30 years of overall longevity. Drinking date: 2024-2052
- 93-95 Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, Lisa Perrotti-Brown: Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Soutard-Cadet sashays out of the glass with drop-dead gorgeous scents of Black Forest cake, stewed plums, boysenberries and licorice plus suggestions of espresso and Indian spices. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers impactful freshness and great intensity, textured by plush tannins and finishing long and layered.
- 94 Punkte VINOUS, Antonio Galloni: The 2019 Soutard-Cadet is plush, deep and super-concentrated. Black cherry, espresso, licorice, menthol and leather meld together as this opulent, richly textured Saint-Émilion shows off its allure. Soutard-Cadet is not a subtle wine. It is made to impress immediately, and that it certainly does, with plenty of stylishness, I might add. Time brings out attractive floral accents that lift the persistent finish nicely. The 2019 is beautifully done. Tasted two times.
- 94 Punkte WINE CELLAR INSIDER, Jeff Leve: Dark in color, and with fruit that is even darker, this voluptuous beauty resonates with its layers of lush, ripe, deep, sweet, fresh fruits, polished tannins and long, fruit-filled finish. The wine is a blend of 90 Merlot and 10 Cabernet Franc.
- 94-96+ Punkte JEB DUNNUCK (102020): Pure cassis, crushed violets, unsmoked tobacco, licorice, and ample mineral notes emerge from the 2019 Château Soutard-Cadet, another beautifully rich yet also elegant wine from this estate. Flawlessly balanced and lengthy, my money is on 2-4 years of bottle age being beneficial, and it should have a long life. ;
