Alles über Latour-Giraud Puligny Montrachet Champs Canet 1Er Cru Cote de Beaune 2020 0.75 L Flasche 2020

- 92-94 Punkte Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy: Picked early with the Bouchères. If you wait you gain sugar and lose acid very quickly in this vineyard. . Little stones keep the heat. Full lemon yellow. The bouquet is softer and riper, possibly more lactic. This is pretty punchy in the middle of the palate, but has retained its vivacity. However, you can see that to pick any later would have been a mistake.
- 92-95 Punkte und Sweet spot Outstanding Top value BURGHOUND, Allen Meadows: A vague whiff of the exotic is present on the blend of both white and yellow peach, floral and spicy aromas where a hint of phenolic character lurks in the background. Here too the texture of the medium-bodied flavors is super-sleek, refined and intense while the sappy and youthfully austere finish exhibits excellent length. This isn't quite as mineral-driven as the Perrières or as delicate as the Bouchères but it's quite classy all the same. Drink: 2030+ Producer note: Jean-Pierre Latour described the 2020 vintage as one that was relatively easy to manage as there wasn't much disease pressure due to how hot and dry the conditions were, in fact they were severe enough to induce hydric stress in some parcels. We picked from the 20th of August and brought in super-clean fruit with moderate alcohols of between 13 and 13.5 for the whites. I am convinced the alcohol levels would have been higher without the hydric stress but better they came in where they did rather than having a bunch of 14 plus wines. By contrast, yields were all over the place as the flowering did not pass especially well in some vineyards. For example, we had normal yields in some parcels whereas the Genevrières was down fully 50. As to the wines, I believe that 2020 is an exceptional vintage as the balance is perfect, indeed they remind me quite a bit of my 2014s, another vintage that is exceptional. Latour is entirely justified to call the results he obtained exceptional as his 2020s are outstanding, indeed it's best vintage I have seen from him since 2014. These are wines to search out as the quality is phenomenal and every wine in the range is highly recommended.
- Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy über Domaine Latour-Giraud : For a period the domaine also operated as a negociant and a distiller, though both these other activities had stopped by 1949. The domaine operates out of the Giraud family premises there have been Girauds in Meursaults since 1850 and Latours since at least the 17th century. The domaine now covers 11 hectares and is run by Jean-Pierre Latour. He joined his father in 1983 and took over 10 years later. The domaine is farmed organically, without certification. The whites are direct pressed, settled if necessary, then encouraged to start to ferment in tank before transfer to barrel, with 20 new wood for the village wines and no more than 25 for the whites, all in the traditional 228 litre size. There is some lees stirring. The wines are racked to tank after 11 months and bottled early the following year. The reds are entirely destemmed (though Jean-Pierres father left all the stems in), given a cool pre-maceration, then fermented with some punching down for a total of up to three weeks in the vats. The approach in both colours is classical but not hidebound. Jean-Pierre is very aware that words like classical or traditional can be taken pejoratively. He remains open to change but I suspect rarely needs to do so as his formula works very well to make un-showy but intense and intricate white wines, along with some attractive, fruit-laden but adequately structured reds. ;
